Additional information

<22>This paper represents an advanced methodology to automatically design and adapt a neighbourhood search algorithm for university examination timetabling. It has been used by our spin out company, EventMap Ltd., which is the subject of one Impact Case Study. The technique draws upon an emerging internationally recognised research theme which is concerned with developing computer methods to automatically design and adapt heuristics. The paper rigorously compares our method with a number of variants of the approach. The results obtained for widely investigated (and well studied) benchmark datasets are highly competitive, producing several best results.
