A History of British Sports Medicine

"This book was the first single-author text on the history of sports medicine, and was based on extensive archive work in more than half a dozen different repositories, including material which has not yet been placed in the public domain, as well as oral histories and printed material. It reworks some core theoretical concepts from both history of medicine and sports history to demonstrate a strong and previously unsuspected connection between British sport and medicine, suggesting that Britain led rather than lagged behind international developments; it also demonstrates that sports medicine is an entirely novel form of medical specialisation.
