Effects of irradiation temperature and dose rate on the mechanical properties of self-ion implanted Fe and Fe-Cr alloys
This is the first study of irradiation dose-rate effects on the mechanical behaviour of reduced activation steels for advanced fusion and fission power plants. This has led to a much larger collaboration with UCSB, the Idaho National Laboratory and the University of Michigan, extending the work to include neutron-irradiated materials and TEM and atom-probe analysis of the radiation damage. It also prompted recognition of the need for work on neutron-irradiated materials within the UK, leading to the establishment in 2013 of the “National Nuclear User Facility”, a £15M project from BIS via EPSRC of which I am a founding-member.
