Nancy Harding’s book ‘On Being at Work: The Social Construction of the Employee’ is a research monograph in Routledge’s Series in Management, Organizations and Society. The series includes ‘innovative work grounded in new realities; addressing issues crucial to an understanding of the contemporary world’. The book is a substantial (204 pages) sole authored piece of original research that is significant and rigorous. The six substantive chapters each approximate to one innovative journal paper, but they are published together in book format so as to develop the new theory that is discussed in the final chapter.
