This paper reflects Luo’s work to improve the accuracy of quantitative X-ray diffraction analysis for the measurement of residual stresses. The research addresses the requirements of several projects with industrial collaborators, e.g. shot-peened gas turbine blades (Chromalloy UK Ltd), creep-resistant nickel alloys (Doosan Power system) and Hybrid-HIPIMS technology (Miba Coating Group). It also contributed to the award of a TSB Smart Award (720113, 2012) to Tinsley Bridge Ltd. This paper has achieved over 600 downloads from the SHU open-access repository SHURA.
