Additional information

This paper is the result of an international collaboration between SHU, University of Leeds, University of Arizona, the Natural History Museum (UK) and South China University of Technology, funded by Leverhulme Trust (grant F00/122/X), EPSRC (grant EP/F042558/1) and NASA (NNX07AU08G). It describes a range of experimental techniques, thermodynamic calculations and metallurgical studies used to develop an understanding of the chemical redox behaviour of meteoritic components including phosphorus oxyacids such as H-phosponinic acid. The development of the understanding of the origin and presence of H-phosponinic acid may be important to develop an understanding of early life processes.
