Additional information

Published in the official journal of the Institute of Corrosion (Impact factor 3.73) this is part of a substantial body of work carried out by the McMurray research group aimed at understanding factors which determine the efficiency with which ‘smart release’ ion-exchange corrosion inhibitor pigments retard corrosion-driven delamination of organic coatings on technologically important metals. Critically, it is shown that exchange (release) kinetics are frequently more important than exchange capacity in determining inhibitor pigment efficiency. These findings are of significant scientific and economic interest and have led to on-going funded collaboration with Tata Steel (jon.elvins@tatasteel.com).
