Additional information

Completed as part of the international ‘Brick’ research project initiated by the European Ceramic Work Centre. The ‘Brick’ project invited over 20 artists, designers and architects from around the world to interrogate the simple building brick with a view to developing new products and solutions. Bremner led the development of RC for thin walled cladding prototypes and for monolithic brick forms that incorporated recycled glass within a RC structure.

Dutch Design Week 2009 was a major design event in The Netherlands that presented the best in architecture and design through a series of exhibitions and events ranging from industrial design, spatial design, and graphic design to textiles, sustainable design and design management & trends. Brick was presented at two major exhibitions and was accompanied by two separate publications documenting the research and outcomes.

The research project was a catalyst for future collaboration with David Binns that led to a successful AHRC Speculative Grant bid. This enabled the research necessary to take the material from small scale studio work into research that would be ready for commercialisation and large scale manufacture.
