Additional information
Nanocomposites represent the cutting edge of multifunctional tribological coatings grown by physical/chemical vapour deposition. This 3-site collaborative paper reports, for the first time, the nanocomposite structure adopted when carbon is introduced during the sputtering deposition of TiAlN/VN nitride. It also demonstrates the application of the latest electron microscopy and spectroscopy techniques (FEG-SEM, TEM, HREM, EELS/ELNES, and EDX) in the characterization of complex nano-structures.
