Characterisation of granule structure and strength made in a high shear granulator
In this work, for the first time, the structure characterisation of particles and granules was conducted with the highest resolution of less than 1 μm per pixel using X-ray micro tomography equipment, Nanotom. The work was followed to quantify the granule structure using our developed computer code as the current available software packages were not able to analyse the structure of particles and granules. Structure descriptors such as phase volume fraction (as representative of porosity), chord length distribution and auto-correlation function (as indices of homogeneity of structure) were used to quantify the internal structure of granules in 3D, which in turn affects the granule strength.
