Changes to Control of Adaptive Gait in Individuals with Long-standing Reduced Stereoacuity
The impact of the relatively prevalent visual impairment conditions of amblyopia and strabismus, on the lives of individuals who exhibit these conditions, has previously been examined by assessing how such individuals perform prehension tasks and other hand-eye coordination tasks. This study is the first to examine the impact of these conditions on everyday locomotion involving negotiation of floor based obstacles. Findings provide evidence that such individuals may be at greater risk of tripping or falling during everyday locomotion compared to visually normal individuals, which is an important advancement of knowledge in this area
