Additional information

The first publication worldwide which anticipates widespread use of emerging technology developments in railway active suspensions for improving lateral ride quality.

The paper proposes an advanced, integrated lateral and tilt suspension control strategy having improved ride quality characteristics (using accepted metrics) - an important contribution to the already mature tilting technology. The novel approach provides the basis for returning to the simpler local control approaches that were attempted for early developments of tilting control, but it was never possible to achieve effective tilt operation due to dynamic interactions with the lateral suspension.
