Additional information
This collaborative publication identified a new class of membrane protein that participates in the function of bacterial spore germinant receptors, challenging the decades long belief that the receptors comprise only three distinct protein subunits (Moir A. 2006. How do spores germinate? Journal of applied microbiology 101:526-530). The manuscript has consolidated the partnership between the Setlow and Christie labs, who are now working collaboratively on structural elucidation of various components of the spore germination apparatus.
