Measuring perceived differences in surface texture due to changes in higher order statistics
<23>The work in this paper was part of EPSRC project EP/D059364/1 (Perceptual Measurement of Surface Texture, £262k, 2006-09, PI:Chantler). Its demonstration that human observers can judge degree of phase randomisation led to a further £480k project: Creative Surface Texture Design & Visualisation (part of EP/F02553X/1). The latter used controlled phase randomisation in design. Maloney, NYU Center for Neural Science and Brain Imaging, is one of the most academically acclaimed vision scientists. The work was presented as a plenary at the Applied Vision Association's Annual workshop at Microsoft Cambridge. and invited for inclusion in: Virtual Journal for Biomedical Optics 5(9): 2010.
