Chemical solutions for greywater recycling
This paper presented a novel method for the treatment of grey water using coagulation and a magnetic ion-exchange resin, and offered a resource efficient solution achieving 25-30% water savings for non-potable applications. The underlying research has been incorporated into water professionals’ guidance published by the leading Construction Industry Research Information Association, CIRIA (Guidance No. C690, Paul Shaffer, paul.shaffer@ciria.org) and used by over 15 leading international research groups (e.g. otterpohl@tu-harburg.de, Ralf Otterpohl, Chairman of the IWA Specialist Group "Sustainable Sanitation", Hamburg) to improve water security in water stressed regions, e.g. SE England and ‘megacities’.
