Acheson, Truman und die Entscheidungen im Koreakrieg 1950
This chapter evaluates Secretary of State Dean Acheson’s role in the formulation and execution of three key decisions on Korea. First, the initial reaction to North Korean aggression. The Americans brought resolutions to the UN, and committed military aid to the South Koreans, but without a Congressional declaration of war. Matters of prestige, as well as the perceived lessons of appeasing Hitler, influenced Acheson and Truman. Secondly, crossing the 38th parallel and taking the war into North Korea. Thirdly, the response to the intervention of Chinese troops. Finally, the chapter charts the impact of these developments on later US policy.
