Additional information

First paper to optimize composite wing panes using lamination parameters with angle of composite plies as design variables; buckling, strain, and ply percentage as constraints. Allows very fast structural evaluation, so problem can now efficiently be optimized using global optimization method like Genetic Algorithms. Led to: EC-FP7 funding for Advanced Lattice Structures for Composite Airframes project (€ 194K) (Reference: 265881) and follow-on EU project on the Production and Analysis Evolution for Lattice Related Barrel Elements Under Operations with Advanced Robustness; collaboration with TU Delft’s Aerospace Structures and Computational Mechanics Research Group (Z.Gurdal@tudelft.nl) and German Aerospace Centre (DLR) (Steffen.Niemann@dlr.de, Heike.Lohse-Busch@dlr.de).
