Additional information

Funded by Syncrude (Canada) and the focus of 2 PhD researchers, this paper describes a new framework to minimize the requirements for experimental testing through the use of computational fluid dynamics in interpreting laboratory data. This led to an 18 month knowledge transfer fellowship (EPSRC/ University of Leeds /Cameron, Ireland) and played a major role in Cameron’s >£500k test program to gain thorough knowledge of the degradation mechanism within a choke under service conditions and used to design next generation chokes for the oil and gas industry in a reduced time-frame, thus demonstrating the industrial impact - corroboration: Eddie.McHugh@c-a-m.com.
