Additional information
This work examined the effects of process parameters on machining performance in MQL. It created a unique map of the process capability in terms of: specific grinding forces, surface roughness and grinding contact temperatures as a function of specific material removal rate. This led to a direct industrial application in aerospace engineering. The resulting environmental and economic benefits are very high, with coolant supply reduced from 120 litres/min at 50-80 bars to 30 millilitres/hour. Rolls Royce are currently funding further work to apply these findings in their area.
