The research broke new ground in the design, development and additive manufacture of high performance footwear optimised for individuals.

This research was funded by the IMCRC/EPSRC as part of the £1M ‘Elite to high street’ multidisciplinary project at the cutting edge of Industrial Design and Ergonomics, Sports Technology and Rapid Manufacturing (http://www.lboro.ac.uk/microsites/enterprise/e2hs/).

The research team were finalists in the Outstanding Engineering Research Team of the Year Award 2009 (Times Higher). The project attracted widespread media coverage including for example The Economist (2011) and Develop3D.com (2013).
