Additional information

Bacterial viruses, phages, are at the forefront of research into new therapies such as vaccines and alternative antibiotics. Filamentous phage have the added advantage that they can be used for a much wider application including semiconductor nanowires in diagnostic devices. Despite their potential diversity of application, bioprocess development for phages is still in its infancy. This paper reports the first assessment of their robustness under high shear processing conditions at industrial concentrations. The findings are now helping define the sequence of operations for efficient and robust phage manufacturing processes currently being developed by Cobra Biologics (Dr Tony Hitchcock, tony.hitchcock@cobrabio.com).
