Additional information
The paper reports on a novel study of shear induced protein unfolding in collaboration with the University of Manchester; it was supported by the EPSRC Chemistry –Chemical Engineering Interface Initiative EPSRC (EP/D500818/1, EP/F007736/1) and described as ‘a challenging interdisciplinary venture’ by reviewers. It represents the first successful attempt in UK to monitor flow induced conformational changes of proteins in real time. The work is of significant importance to therapeutic protein production and has lead to further collaborations and funding from the Technology Strategy Board (TP 4783-44 269, Technology Inspired Collaborative R&D).
