Additional information

This paper awarded a prize by IEEE Industry Applications Society, addresses an important problem relating to the More-Electric Aircraft. Poor capacitor reliability is a barrier to use of electrical drives in aircraft. The paper presents a technique for the detection of a dc-link capacitor failure in an electric drive system under all operating conditions. The work was funded by Goodrich £188,000 (now UTC Aerospace Systems) and has subsequently led to an EU project (Actuation 2015) £267,863. The results are being used by UTC Aerospace Systems UTAS contact: Maamar Benarous, Tel. 01902624509 in the development of high reliability aircraft systems
