This collaboration with Peking and Tsinghua Universities concerns a numerical algorithm for LES of low Mach number reactive flow. This was developed by combining the modified projection method and a self-adaptive time step procedure. Simulations of methane-air diffusion jet flame were performed with the developed methodology. The results show that the method provides an acceptable and efficient way to optimize the computational time when capturing more details of the reactive flow, clear understanding of which helps optimise the fuel consumption. Hence, this research has many potential applications in the aerospace and automotive industries.
