Dimensions of Expertise : a conceptual exploration of vocational knowledge
‘Dimensions of Expertise’ is one of very few substantial philosophical book-length treatments available of professional/ vocational knowledge. Each of its ten chapters covers a topic substantial enough to be considered as a journal article, although the book constitutes an argumentative unity. It engages with current debates within mainstream epistemology concerning claims as to whether know-how is a species of know-that and relates this discussion to substantial issues in vocational and professional education concerning the nature of curricula and qualifications. It also critically examines currently influential theories of expertise such as those of Dreyfus and Dreyfus and Bereiter and Scardamalia.
