Double-weighted statement

This project extracted the data from three British Twentieth Century household expenditure surveys:

1904 Board of Trade (1,033 households); Ministry of Labour 1937-8 (623 households) and Ministry of Labour 1953-4 (12,903 households). The digitisation process between 2010-13 required the production of c. 1 million digital images of the original records and the extraction of data from these images. The dataset has over 700 expenditure fields, plus further fields relating to income, tax, benefits and housing as well as occupation, household structure and location.

All three surveys are supported by bespoke codebooks and available from the project website and the UKDA.
