Additional information

The reported research on Doppler and multipath spreads has significant impact on the design and operation of communication systems in the HF band at northerly latitudes. Undertaken as part of our longer-term goal to provide forecasts for commercial airlines operating on trans-polar routes. Supported by the EPSRC (EP/C014642/1, £233k), the work formed the basis for further investigations (EPSRC, EP/K008781/1, £347k). The work is informing the next revision of the ITU-R “Ionosphere and its Effects on Radiowave Propagation” handbook.
