Additional information

This multicenter paper reported a new inherited cardiac syndrome, describing the association between out of hospital cardiac arrest and an electrical anomaly on the resting 12 lead clinical electrocardiogram. It has led to the wide recognition of a family of undefined ion-channel abnormalities which may account for what has up to now been described as "idiopathic" ventricular fibrillation, and the improved understanding of ion channel biology ushers in new era for treatments of this lifethreatening condition. O’Neill was the only UK participant in this multidisciplinary, multicenter collaborative project.
