The coupled thermal-hydraulic-mechanical behaviour of a large scale in-situ heating experiment
The paper reports a large scale in-situ heating experiment carried out as part of an International Research collaboration between GRC and Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd (AECL). This is a joint publication arising from that work, which presents both the experimentally measured and the numerically simulated results. A number of very interesting and important phenomena are highlighted, including the effect of thermal expansion of the pore water in the rock inducing new transient excess pore water pressure gradients. Re-saturation times for the experiment are also explored, as a key output of interest to the commissioning authorities. (Case Study 2)
