Additional information

"This paper describes a novel method which enables, for the first time, 3D vector fields of blood velocity to be produced using Doppler echocardiography. Therefore blood flow within cardiac chambers can be fully visualised and quantitative cardiac parameters calculated without confounding effects from the Doppler view direction.

Early results from this paper were presented at EuroEcho 2012 (the largest scientific event in Europe on echocardiography) where the first author won the Young Investigator Award for Basic Science. Methods described in this paper are currently being validated in a series of patients at St Thomas' Hospital.
