A new test rig for accurate nonparametric measurement and characterization of thermoelectric generators
Thermoelectric (TE) generation and heat pump modules are used increasingly in high power applications where total system performance is paramount. This paper describes a unique test system developed at Glasgow that provides “real-world” behaviour on up to 4 modules simultaneously under different thermal conditions. The system is now used by UK thermoelectric device manufacturer (European Thermodynamics Ltd) to produce performance data for new products, OEM application developers (e.g. Jaguar-Land Rover) to determine thermoelectric-based exhaust gas energy recovery system performance and in the development of MPPT power converters. Work is conducted in parallel with NPL which provides equivalent materials metrology.
