Additional information

Milling processes are highly non-linear mechatronics systems that are further complicated when considering external perturbations and modelling uncertainties. This paper follows on from the EPSRC-funded CAPM project (GR/R13401/01) investigating the relationship between cutting parameters and the surface finish of the manufactured workpiece. The partnership with the University of the Basque Country, Spain, has resulted in sophisticated control algorithms to deal with the motion control of the milling process while integrating force and vibration feedback. The architecture of the controller is both open and modular, allowing for inclusion of additional models and automatic adaption of the process for different problem states.
