Additional information

The conventional implementation of morphological filters based on image-processing does not work for state-of-the-art surfaces, for example the increasingly economically important freeform surfaces. Novel geometric computation theory is developed and definitions and propositions for the search of contact points presented and mathematically proved based on alpha shape theory. This is applicable to both circular and horizontal flat structuring elements (see ISO 16610 parts-40-41-49). It is also applicable to the definition of ‘the mechanical surface’ (ISO 14406). Impact is evidenced by the fact that all standards are fundamental to the Geometrical Product Specification and Verification System used in manufacturing industry worldwide.
