Phosphorus grid-enabled GMPLS control plane (G2MPLS): Architectures services and interfaces
Paper reports results from European project "Phosphorus" (initiated by Simeonidou, No. 034115, €5.1M, 2006-9) demonstrating, for first time, coordinated network and supercomputing resource provisioning for scientific applications. Work is widely recognised as predecessor of cloud computing and initiated new research field in optical communications: photonic grids. Outputs were showcased at large-scale demonstrators involving international fibre connectivity and major supercomputing centres in Europe and America. Work influenced deployment of LHC Grid - the BW-on-demand service of Pan-European "GEANT" network [contact: Stakeholder, Janet UK and GEANT; Manager, Poznan Supercomputing Centre] and led to flagship European grant "GEYSERS" (No. 248657, €7M, 2010-3).
