Double-weighted statement

The book meets four of the criteria to justify double-weighting. It reconceptualises late medieval French song within a broader context of medieval sound, and required an evidential and theoretical approach that is complex and interdisciplinary in nature. It collects and analyses a large body of primary data for sound, including literary, visual, as well as musical evidence. This includes substantial manuscript evidence, gathered over several research trips to libraries in the US and Europe. The interdisciplinary methodology mediates approaches from a significant range of fields, including musicology, history, art history, literature and sound studies. Research took six years to complete.
