Broadband Terahertz Plasmonic Response of Touching InSb Disks
Plasmonic resonances play an important role for sensor applications, as they enhance the amplitude of the electromagnetic field within a volume of sub-wavelength dimensions. For sensing complex molecules, the terahertz frequency range is problematic because of collective molecular vibrational modes which are affected by conformational changes. The uniqueness of the touching disk structure is the strong field confinement over a larger frequency interval, enabling THz spectroscopy on the nanometre length scale. This paper described the first experimental demonstration based on InSb nanostructures, prepared by our collaborators from Singapore, paving the way for a new generation of THz biosensors.
