Despite the rapid growth in interest in cold spray deposition the mechanism of bond formation with the substrate was poorly understood. The model proposed in this paper, and supported by experimental evidence, explains the behaviour in clear physical terms. This work made evident, for the first time, how the bonding developed during cold spray deposition can be so strong.
