Composition-structure-property relationships of 6H- and 12R-Type Hexagonal Ba(Mn,Ti) O(3-delta) Perovskites
The structure-property relationships of two hexagonal BaTiO3 polymorphs were investigated in collaboration with the Complutense University of Madrid (funding; MAT2007-61954 (Madrid), FAME-NoE FP6-500159 (Madrid, Sheffield), and EPSRC (Sheffield)). Results show that controlling both Mn content and oxygen deficiency allows tailoring of the crystal structure and the concomitant electrical and dielectric properties. This approach can be applied to a broad class of perovskites. This paper to an upsurge in interest on structure-property relationships of hexagonal perovskites and currently some companies are looking into their potential application in thermoelectrics for energy harvesting.
