Photobactericidal effects of TiO2 thin films at low temperatures—A preliminary study
This Scottish Enterprise Proof of Concept funded work, demonstrates the efficacy of laser cured TiO2 surface coatings with antimicrobial activity at chill room temperature. Pathogenic bacteria represent a significant hazard in the food and drink industry however a major obstacle preventing the widespread adoption of antimicrobial coatings in this sector has been the lack of antimicrobial activity at low temperature. This is the first report demonstrating successful antimicrobial activity of the TiO2 coating at 10C indicating that the coating should have great industrial potential compared to existing commercial products (Verification - Director of Scottish Food and Drink Federation).
