Additional information

This is the first study to present an Atomic Force Microscopy protocol to measure the elastic moduli of adherent cells without artifacts stemming from the stiff substrate onto which cells are routinely adhered. As such this is set to change future AFM based analysis of cell mechanics. The paper was featured as cover image of the NIH DDIR Webboard (November 2012). Work was awarded the 2012 NIH FARE award ($1000). Publication led to a collaboration with the university of Crete (Greece). The developed technology was key in securing the collaborative grant ‘NIH director’s challenge innovation award’ (#191814, $110,000).
