Additional information

This paper reported on a novel type of micronsized capsule which enables a dual response to the same external triggering by Ultraviolet exposure. The capsules are made from specialised bi-functional layer constituents in a multilayer structure such that short term UV exposure seals the capsules but longer term exposure causes rupture and release of the biologically active cargoes. The work was part of a funded collaboration with L’Oreal-Paris (Industrial contract) and has now led to a joint patent for the technology enabling the creation of elaborate materials with dual time-dependent responses to the same UV stimuli.
