Additional information

The paper describes a novel method for selective drug release from microcapsules based on wavelength tuning of the nanostructure. Differences in the spectral position of the surface plasmon peak of for gold nanoparticles compared to nanorods makes possible selective release of encapsulated drug from one sort of capsule by irradiation at specific wavelengths which induces local heating and increases capsule permeability. The work led to collaboration with spinal surgeons (Arun Ranganathan, ranganathan.secretary@spinesurgerylondon.com) who are interested in stimulating release of different drugs at different time points.
