Bulk and surface switching in Mn-Fe-based Prussian blue analogues
Bimetallic Prussian Blue derivatives are new optically functional crystalline magnetic materials whose magnetic and optical characteristics can be photocontrolled without deterioration by repetition (which is a defect of the conventional photochromic materials). Their application as information elements has been recognised generally and valued, and has been documented in a Japanese patent (JP2002088353). Our contribution is relevant with regard to future device fabrication as we identified the effectiveness of the switching phenomena both in the bulk of the material and at the sample surface. Importantly, we found that the material is robust enough to cope with metal defects.
