This work was funded by the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory and carried out in collaboration with Dr Brewer (DSTL Porton Down). It reports for the first time the use of unilateral NMR for monitoring the spatially resolved ingress of liquids into complex protective fabrics. It led DSTL to purchase an identical instrument in order to continue the research activity, following the same experimental protocol. An image from this article appeared on the front cover of the journal issue.
