Additional information

The method developed in the paper enabled the remarkable discovery reported in Science (336(6081):567-570,2012), that magnetic reconnection happens near Venus, a planet that has no intrinsic magnetic field. In addition to this, more than 80 peer reviewed papers have been published, based on magnetic measurements that were 'cleaned' using our algorithm. This is the first time that such studies have been possible from magnetically "unclean" spacecraft. The research formed the basis of a Venus Express Post Launch Support grant ST/G0044218/1.
