Additional information

Novel experimental study using ultrasonic techniques to evaluate lubrication of metal-on-metal resurfacing replacements, in collaboration with University of Sheffield and Tribosonics Ltd (p.harper@tribosonics.com). Study demonstrated correlation between friction, lubrication and incidence of squeaking in hip replacements. First study to experimentally investigate squeaking of metal-metal resurfacing implants, and demonstrated it to be a tribological phenomenon. Ultrasonic methodology has been commercialised by Tribosonics Ltd for research applications. The approaches and understanding developed in this study are being applied to industry funded research to support new product developments and evaluate new products, such as DePuy Delta-motion hip replacement (GIsaac@its.jnj.com).
