English abstract

The Table des Marchands is an iconic monument, not only for the Carnac region of Brittany but also for Megalithism as a whole. The site features prominently in the public imagination, as it is grounded in the identity of the local population, in part as a result of the signs and symbols displayed on the rock. In this paper the authors compare the art at the Table des Marchands with equivalent material in Ireland, looking at similarities and underlining analogies between the two regions. The importance of the site for European prehistoric burial art is shown.
