L’Architecture des Signes. L’Art Pariétal des Tombeaux Néolithiques autour de la Mer d’Irlande
This is a new study of passage tomb art and its context through spatial analysis, looking at 634 carved stones from 89 sites in Ireland, Wales, North-western England and the Orkney Islands. The database comprises published carvings and new recordings (at Irish sites) produced with an innovative photographic technique. Three scales of analysis are presented: a study of the combinations of signs; relationships between signs and the stone supports; relationships between signs and tomb architecture. The outcome of these analyses is the discovery of a new set of different 'grammatical rules' organising the art into space
