Additional information

The study, funded by EPRSC and the Ministry of Defence, was undertaken with help from the Building Research Establishment who sourced composite panels from an actual building following thirty years of exposure to mechanical and environmental loading. The results are useful for the development of design and assessment codes for composite materials, in which mechanical properties need to be specified on a statistical basis. Moreover, the spatial analysis undertaken prepares the ground for a stochastic modelling framework based on random field theory, which is of interest to the aerospace and defence sectors.
