Based on the experiments reported in this paper, the US navy went on to perform larger scale tests for designs relevant to their next generation of ships (the prototypes were built by Cellular Materials International Inc., Doug Queheillalt, ID_in_audit_file@cellularmaterials.com). The research also led to follow on projects in landmine protection of land vehicles worth USD2M to Cambridge University (ONR and DARPA, grant numbers: WR91CRB-10-1-0005, WR91CRB-11-1-0005 and N62909-13-1-N149).
